Environmental Studies Have Been Completed
On the Canadian side all environmental approvals were received in 2009. Approval under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act was granted in August 2009 followed by approval under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act in December.
On the U.S. side, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has issued a Record of Decision approving the U.S. portion of the new Detroit-Windsor border crossing system over the Detroit River. The Record of Decision is the last step under the U.S. National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to gain project approval. MDOT continues to conduct preliminary design activities as part of the DRIC project; further action awaits approval by the Michigan Legislature.
